U.S. soybean growers joined ASA/WISHH in presenting the power of U.S. soy protein for both human foods and animal feeds during May meetings with all three Rome-based food agencies as well as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture, and USDA Foreign Agricultural Service staff.
Ambassador Jeffrey Prescott and others stressed the importance of the U.S. farmer voice in Rome, which is a global meeting place for discussions on food security, quality and sustainability. Participating farmers were: ASA Director and WISHH Vice Chair Morey Hill, ASA Director and WISHH committee member Heather Feuerstein, USB Director Robert Alpers, WISHH Immediate-Past Chair Gerry Hayden, and WISHH Treasurer Bob Haselwood,
The Rome-based United Nations food organizations (Food and Agriculture Organization, World Food Programme and International Fund for Agricultural Development) lead programs that either currently use U.S. soy or invest in developing economies where ASA/WISHH also works to develop new markets. USB supported WISHH’s organization of the farmer delegation to Rome. WISHH’s meetings also help ensure that developing countries look to soy to meet their protein needs first and then as they develop, they choose soy to feed their livestock or for more nutritious human foods.
