The ASA’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health program is sponsoring the Ghana Tourism Authority’s Ghana Poultry Day, organized by Agrihouse Foundation. The event emphasizes the importance of supporting and consuming locally produced poultry, highlighting its nutritional value. WISHH has supported the poultry value chain in Ghana since it launched the USDA Food for Progress-funded AMPLIFIES project, which WISHH led in Ghana from 2015 to 2020. Through this year’s Ghana Poultry Day collaboration, WISHH is promoting egg consumption and enhancement of Ghana’s poultry sector, which can increasingly rely on U.S. soy for high-quality feed. WISHH is sponsoring the day’s events with the support of the United Soybean Board.
The timely event comes as WISHH farmer representatives visited Ghana in June to see the progress of its continuing poultry work in the country. Farmer leaders visited partners like Edith Wheatland of Rockland Farms. Wheatland benefited from the AMPLIFIES project through training on feed and poultry processing. Now Wheatland has expanded its production capabilities and is supplying poultry products to Ghanian consumers while promoting economic growth through job creation and food security.
The Kentucky Soybean-supported Ghana National Egg Campaign Secretariat also has a hand in sponsoring events on Ghana Poultry Day. WISHH worked Ghana’s Women in Poultry Value Chain (WIPVaC) to create the egg secretariat to promote egg consumption in the country. Farmer leaders were also delighted to receive updates from WIPVaC leaders on their trade trip to Ghana this month.
Qualified state soybean boards like the Kentucky Soybean Board alongside USB support WISHH’s strategy to build new markets for U.S. Soy through the improvement of health, nutrition, and food security in sub-Saharan Africa.
