ASA/WISHH Executive Director Gena Perry discussed WISHH’s work in global food security, trade and development with international organizations while participating in events held in conjunction with the United Nations 68th Commission on the Status of Women in New York City. Perry met with representatives of organizations, such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, which has released a report that documents the vital role women play in agrifood systems and the development of economies.
Leaders and development organizations from countries where WISHH works, such as Kenya, attended the UN gathering, which included a wide array of speakers and side events for networking. Perry was able to participate through a registration sponsored by the Global Fund for Widows, which holds a UN special consultative status. The Global Fund for Widows is interested in nutritious foods made with U.S. Soy for children of mothers who are starting their business and financial training for GFW-supported savings associations.
USB supports WISHH’s strategy to build new markets for U.S. Soy through the improvement of health, nutrition and food security in Asia, Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa.
