WISHH met with the Cambodia Aquaculturist Association to discuss the now 1,100-member association’s success and discuss its plans for the future.

Last week, the ASA’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health program met with the Cambodia Aquaculturist Association to discuss the association’s progress and next steps for the organization. Launched with WISHH’s support under the USDA-funded Commercialization of Aquaculture for Sustainable Trade – Cambodia Food for Progress Project, CAA now counts more than 1,100 members among its ranks. These members include fish farmers, sellers, wholesalers, feed millers, and distributors. CAA continued growth highlights Cambodia’s burgeoning aquaculture sector and the increasing opportunity for U.S. soy trade for fish feed.

During the meeting, WISHH and CAA discussed the association’s newly created strategic plan, which focuses on building a resilient aquaculture value chain and trade network. The plan underscores the importance of partnerships among NGOs, farmers, private sector stakeholders, and government agencies to achieve sustainable growth. CAA, with support from the Illinois Soybean Association, will now expand to four more provinces in Cambodia, bringing its total to 10.
