This past November, ASA/WISHH participated in the World Aquaculture Society’s AFRAQ 2024 conference in Tunisia. The event spotlights advancements and challenges in Africa’s aquaculture sector. WISHH’s 20-person trade team included partners and WISHH experts from Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda and Zimbabwe. The trade team was made possible with support from the United Soybean Board.
WISHH hosted a farmer day session that included a panel discussion on managing rising input costs, fish health challenges, and navigating changing aquaculture markets. WISHH experts shared solutions that work to enable growth and profitability for farmers.
The session was followed by an open discussion on “Bullets to Bite and Pills to Swallow,” which emphasized the importance of bridging gaps to meet industry needs and enhance collaboration.
Overall, the event fostered valuable networking opportunities, strengthened WISHH’s connections with African fish farmers, and showcased the role of U.S. soy in supporting the growth of Africa’s aquaculture industry.
