The ASA’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health program sponsored and participated in the International Food Aid Showcase at the United States Department of Agriculture on May 2nd. WISHH Executive Director Gena Perry and New Business Development Director Mike Doherty presented several WISHH projects in Asia, Latin America, and sub-Saharan Africa, including how WISHH works with its partners to bring new products to emerging markets. The presentation led to USDA Foreign Agriculture Service highlighting WISHH’s Food for Progress project in Cambodia that has increased the use of U.S. soy for fish feed while introducing new foods to consumers.

The International Food Aid Showcase highlighted the role of American-grown commodities, including U.S. soy, in global food security. It brought together diverse stakeholders from all segments of the U.S. food assistance value chain—from farmers to NGO implementing partners and government agencies—for a day of learning and connecting while fostering increased collaboration between strategic partners. WISHH strategic partners Edesia Nutrition and Tiger Soy also joined the event to show how commodities like soy provide a key role for the manufacturing of protein-rich foods for malnourished populations worldwide. Tiger Soy provides high-quality U.S. soy for companies like Edesia that create ready-to-use supplementary foods in more than 60 countries. Both partners are in WISHH’s latest video that highlights U.S. soy flour’s role in global food security.
