Join ASA’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health Program for an in-person as well as virtual program hosted in partnership with the World Affairs Council St. Louis that centers on global food security. USB is supporting “The Impact of the War in Ukraine on the World’s Agricultural Supply Chain and Global Food Security,” 7:30 am breakfast and then 8 am in-person and virtual discussion on September 20 at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
WISHH Chair Roberta Simpson-Dolbeare, a soybean grower from Illinois, and WISHH Executive Director Gena Perry join the panel comprised of representatives from across the soybean and agricultural supply chain. Panelists will discuss the war’s effects on global commodity prices, global food security, and how leaders in St. Louis and beyond are responding. In addition to Perry, speakers include USB Vice President Mac Marshall, Tiger Soy Commercial Director Adam Thomas, Danforth Executive Director of Innovation Partnerships Stephanie Regagnon, and a representative of Edesia Nutrition.
USB is funding WISHH’s work with Edesia, which uses U.S. soy flour to manufacture its high-protein food packets distributed to more than 60 countries. Due to the importance of the relationship, U.S. soybean growers, Tiger Soy and other food security leaders traveled to Edesia’s plant in December. At the time, the company projected it would need to procure soy flour that would use the equivalent of more than 170,000 bushels of U.S. soybeans in 2022. Edesia Executive Director Maria Kasparian notes that recent U.S. Agency for International Development announcements sets the stage for more demand for U.S. Soy.
World Affairs STL points out that many Americans became aware of the need for a strongly connected global supply chain due to the pandemic. However, the ongoing war in Ukraine further highlights the leadership of supply chain experts, especially those who work on global food security.
Interested soybean growers as well as supply chain and business leaders are encouraged to register here.
