Building Progress Together on World Egg Day

ASA/WISHH honors the hard work of Ghana’s egg and poultry value chain strategic partners every day, and especially on World Egg Day, October 11. WISHH’s AMPLIFIES (Assist in the Management of Poultry and Layer Industries with Feed Improvement and Efficiency Strategies) Ghana Project launched the National Egg Campaign in 2017 and is excited that stakeholders have taken the initiative to grow the effort by creating a Secretariat focused on promoting the benefits of eggs that will build even more momentum.

The National Egg Campaign Secretariat (NECS) association is built on the belief that by improving marketing opportunities and reliability of products and services through capacity and reputation building activities of value chain stakeholders, the quality and consistency of the food supply will increase resulting in benefits to the health and nutrition of Ghanaians.

The National Egg Campaign, supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA-funded) AMPLIFIES Ghana’s comprehensive strategy, has contributed to exciting results through the National Egg Campaign. Ghana’s consumption of eggs has risen from an estimated 12 eggs per capita in 1995 to 128 eggs per capita in 2018.

Numerous countries expressed interest in these results and more last week in Rwanda where organizers of the VIV Leadership Conference held in conjunction with Poultry Africa 2019 asked AMPLIFIES Technical Specialist Comfort Acheampong to present on the strategies and successes in Ghana.

ASA/WISHH connects trade and development. As a trailblazer for trade, WISHH grows markets for U.S. soy farmers, and at the same time, improves lives and economic opportunities in developing countries. WISHH has a lasting interest in seeing increased egg consumption in Ghana as an effective way to ensure that more protein reaches the growing population. Additionally, demand for eggs drives demand for soybean meal and increases opportunities for trade.
