Midwest Workshop
The Midwest Workshop is held at the National Soybean Research
Laboratory at the University of Illinois and hosts' representatives
of PVOs, U.S. government officials, soybean farmer and industry
leaders for a workshop on the role of soy in international food
assistance programs. The focus of the workshop program is to provide
new information about soy and soy products that can play a valuable
role in meeting people's immediate and long-term nutritional needs
as well as fit into sustainable economic development programs.
This is a terrific opportunity for participants to hear about soy
as well as see its many uses demonstrated and ask the experts about
how their specific international programs can benefit. Previous
workshop attendees have also found the interaction with industry
representatives to be very helpful as they explore how to expand
the use of soy in their food aid programs around the world. To
learn about previous Midwest workshops and how to participate in
upcoming workshops, please visit Midwest
Workshop.

Midwest Workshop 2003
Washington
Conference & Workshop
The
Washington Conference and Workshop is held at the Hotel Washington
in Washington DC and is divided into two programs, a conference and
a workshop. The conference includes other commodity organizations,
government employees and additional PVOs. The objective for the conference
is more general and is aimed at encouraging open dialogue on a wider
array of topics relative to food aid and nutrition. Panels of USAID
and USDA officials, as well as PVO and WFP representatives discuss
current issues important to the food aid community. There are also
several sessions addressing food security and nutrition crisis within
the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The workshop includes ASA personnel, WISHH
consultants, Industry representatives and PVOs. The theme of the
workshop will be to discuss projects that the WISHH program has undertaken
with certain PVOs, and to give various industry, shipping, and PVO
representatives a chance to discuss the logistics involved in using
various soy products. In addition, we identify the ongoing food aid
programs funded by the U.S. government and discuss how we might better
meet humanitarian, nutritional and developmental goals by programming
soy protein products. The emphasis is to discuss practical solutions
and conceptualize project proposal concepts. To learn about previous
Washington workshops and how to participate in upcoming workshops,
please visit Washington
Conference and Workshop.
